And so it begins.....another generation where I get to create Halloween costumes. Woo Hoo!! My daughter and her husband wanted our new Granddaughter to be a bumblebee for her first Halloween. So, of course I began the process back in August to give myself plenty of time to get it right.
I settled on yellow and black broadcloth for the body. I found a black long sleeve onesie and Mom found some black tights. So we now had the basics......The wings threw me for a bit. But I landed on (no pun intended) a combination of clear vinyl tablecloth and iridescent chiffon as my base. The framework/veins within the wings I chose black pipe cleaners.I felt the wings were going to be the most challenging, so that's where I began my project. I sewed some parts, but most of it was put together with a glue gun. I worked hard on the shape and size.
The antenna I also made from pipe cleaners with pom poms at the very top. I reinforced some stretch lace that I used for the headband to keep them from pulling at the lace. All in all, I was pleased with the final result. This is the first costume I made for a little one so small (she's just 9 months old). The first costume I made for my daughter was a clown costume that she wore at 15 months old.
